说起詹姆斯-哈登，相信球迷们都不陌生，在被雷霆队交易到火箭队之后，他就成了名副其实的大当家，经过几个赛季的磨练，更是已经蜕变成为现役最佳后场球员之一。然而，围绕在哈登身边的偏见却始终没有消失，在赛季哈登打出场均27.4分5.7篮板7助攻的表现，三项数据都是当时的生涯新高，并且带队取得了56胜，在西部分区仅次于勇士队排在第二位。然而，最终在常规赛MVP的评选中他还是输给了库里。论个人表现哈登虽然无法完胜库里，但毕竟还是占据优势的；而在带队能力上，库里带队取得67胜15负，是当时勇士队的队史最佳战绩，取得常规赛最有价值球员无可厚非。但哈登在二当家霍华德出勤率仅50%的情况下，几乎“单核”带队取得了56场胜利，含金量同样不输给库里。而在赛季就更加离谱了，哈登交出了场均29分6.1篮板7.5助攻的成绩单，三项基础数据在前一年的基础上，又一次刷新了职业生涯的新高。然而这一次，哈登无缘MVP暂且不提，连最佳阵容第三阵容都没能挤进去，这几乎不可理喻。如果说赛季在MVP的竞争上输给库里，是由于在战绩上不占优的话，那么赛季再次在MVP的评选中屈居次席，那就无法解释了。这一次哈登连续第三年刷新了三项数据的生涯新高，场均29.1分8.1篮板11.2助攻极具说服力，火箭队在他的带领下拿到了55胜27负的战绩，常规赛排名高居全联盟第三位并且在季后赛杀进了第二轮。然而，最后拿到MVP奖杯的是威斯布鲁克。当然，威斯布鲁克拿到这座奖杯也是实至名归，但是对于哈登而言却不太公平。这一次在数据方面，威斯布鲁克并没有比哈登出色太多，哈登场均也仅差1.9篮板就能够完成场均三双的伟业。但是，在球队战绩方面，雷霆队落后火箭队八个胜场，也仅仅排在西部第六，这一次评选标准又变成了所谓的“个人表现”。连续三年被黑，哈登也算得上是最悲催的巨星了。然而，下赛季火箭队又加入了保罗这样的强援，哈登距离自己的首座MVP奖杯还是比较遥远的。
