2. It’s polite to follow them.遵循这些餐桌礼仪是礼貌的表现. follow 为动词:遵守,遵循;贯彻,执行.但是常用的含义为"跟随"。翻译时要根据语境选用恰当的词义。
如:① He followed me into the room.
他跟着我进了房间。 ② Winter follows autumn.
秋去冬来(冬季跟在秋季的后面到来。) ③ You speak so fast that I can not follow you.
你讲得这么快,我都没有听懂。
(此句中follow=understand)
6. 下面是两个短语
begin / start to do sth
begin / start doing sth.的用法区别:
谈及一项长期活动或开始一种习惯时, 使用doing.

2) begin, start用进行时时，后面动词用不定式to do

Whether/if 用法
在一般情况下，两者可互换，但它们之间也是有区别的，区别如下：
1 在正式文体中whether后可直接跟or not，而if则不能。
如：He doesn’t mind whether they’re good or not.
他不介意他们是好的还是差的。
2whether引导的宾语从句可以移到句首，则if不能。
I can’t say whether this is true or not.=Whether this is true or not,I can’t say.
这是不是真的，我不敢说。
3 介词之后用whether ，不用if。
如：I’m interested in whether she likes English
我关心的是她是否喜欢英语。

Whether/if 用法
4 不定式前用whether，不用if
She asked me whether to start early
她问我能否早点出发
5 whether可引导其他从句，如主语从句，表语从句等，if则不能。
如：It is uncertain whether he will come
他来不来还不清楚。
The question is whether the experiment is worth doing
问题是这个实验是否值得做。
if 除了是否还有“假如。如果“之意，用在条件状语从句中。
He is going to Beijing if it doesn’t rain tomorrow
