Thai Airways regional subsidiary Thai Smile could be approaching a critical juncture as its parent pursues a major restructuring. Thai Smile could be used to take over Thai&s unprofitable regional routes but the group&also has been using the subsidiary to expand in point to point markets as competition with LCCs intensifies.
Thai Smile has made several strategic U-turns since its 2011 conception and now has dual roles, serving as a feeder for Thai Airways at Bangkok&s main international gateway Suvarnabhumi while competing against LCCs on point to point domestic routes from Bangkok&s original airport Don Mueang. The roles are somewhat contradictory and not easy to balance. Ultimately the group may need to adjust its multi-brand strategy and refocus Thai Smile, which has&generally lacked the cost structure to compete effectively at the bottom end of the market.
Thai Smile&s fleet will grow to 20 A320s by the end of 2015. The group has no additional narrowbody commitments for 2016 or beyond. Further fleet growth is possible, particularly if Thai Smile is used to take over more Thai Airways routes, but is hardly guaranteed and could hinge on further changes to its business model.
Thailand&s NokScoot is aiming to launch scheduled services in May-2015 with an initial fleet of three 415-seat 777-200s. The long-haul low-cost joint venture between Thai Airways affiliate Nok Air and Singapore Airlines (SIA) subsidiary Scoot is planning to serve China, Korea, Japan and potentially Singapore in its initial phase.
NokScoot is eager to enter the fast-expanding but increasingly competitive Thailand-North Asia market. But the start-up is unlikely to pursue significant growth until it is able transition to new-generation aircraft. The 777s are an interim solution that is unlikely to be profitable but enables NokScoot to quickly establish a presence on several key routes.
NokScoot was initially planning to launch scheduled services in late 2014 starting with flights to Tokyo Narita. But it has encountered repeated delays, mainly on the Japanese end. NokScoot is now simultaneously seeking approvals from several authorities, giving it the flexibility to launch with one of several potential routes.
Competition in Thailand&s domestic market will intensify further in 2015 as Thai Lion Air pursues further expansion. Thai Lion has quickly established a significant presence on a handful of trunk routes and will likely be competing on all the main domestic routes of Nok Air and Thai AirAsia by the end of 2015.
The Lion Group affiliate&launched services at the end of 2013 and already accounts for 17% of domestic LCC seat capacity in Thailand.&Thai Lion&could potentially capture a 25% share by the end of 2015 as it takes delivery of several additional 737s.
Seat capacity and passenger numbers in Thailand&s domestic LCC sector increased by over 30% in 2014. But the growth has come at the expense of yields and profitability. More rapid domestic growth is expected in 2015 and the intense competition could make it difficult for the market to return to profitability even with the reduction in oil prices.
Thailand continues to be an extremely challenging market with all four of Thailand&s main carriers reporting losses for 3Q2014. Combined losses in 3Q2014 at Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air and Thai AirAsia were about USD150million on revenues of about USD1.85 billion, continuing a negative trend which started in 2Q2014.
Thailand&s international market has been significantly impacted by political instability, which started in late 2013&and reached its apex in 2Q2014. Meanwhile the domestic market has been impacted by overcapacity, driven by rapid expansion from Thailand&s three low-cost carriers and a slowdown in the local economy.
The pace of recovery in Thailand&s economy and tourism sector has so far been slower than anticipated. There should be some improvement in 4Q2014 but a full recovery is not likely until at least 2015.
LCC start-up Tigerair Taiwan is planning to pursue rapid expansion with an initial focus on Singapore, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. China could eventually become Tigerair Taiwan&s largest market if bilateral restrictions, which are the carrier&s biggest obstacle to growth, are eased.
The new China Airlines (CAL) subsidiary became Taiwan&s first LCC on 26-Sep-2014, when it launched services to Singapore with one A320. A second A320 will be added in Nov-2014 and used to launch services to Thailand while a third A320 is expected to arrive by early 2015 and support new services to Korea and Japan.
Tigerair Taiwan is encouraged by initial load factors on the Singapore route and moves by the Taiwanese government to liberalise and promote LCC development. It now expects to grow faster than outlined in its initial business plan, which envisioned a fleet of 12 A320s by the end of its third year.
AirAsia should see a surge in transfer traffic over the next several months as it introduces and expands its Fly-Thru transit product at additional hubs. AirAsia is evolving to become more like a network carrier, following other Asian LCC groups which have been promoting and selling connections for several years.
Bangkok Don Mueang in late 2013 became the second hub for AirAsia&s Fly-Thru product, which was initially introduced at Kuala Lumpur in 2010.
AirAsia introduced the transit product at Jakarta in Sep-2014 and is planning to extend Fly-Thru to Bali and Kota Kinabalu by the end of 2014.
The launch of long-haul affiliates in Indonesia and Thailand is driving much of the growth. But there is also growing demand for short-haul to short-haul connections.

Nimmanhaemin Road

DE NAGA HOTEL(四星)
房型:Premier Deluxe

I held off purchasing this very detailed airport until AES became available. Thai Creation have done an excellent job and one can feel the pride for their airport and city. Animations abound within the airport and nearby highway. Having colour and movement makes SUCH a difference you wonder why many developers can't be bothered.
The freeware version of VTBD is very good ... this one is superlative and definitely worth the money.
