Hyundai Motor Co. to recall YF Sonata sedans in the U.S., S Korea

SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Wednesday it will recall the new version of its Sonata sedan in the United States and in South Korea due to a faulty door latch.
"Acting on a handful of customer complaints, Hyundai Motor will carry out a voluntary recall of its new Sonatas produced in (South) Korea and the United States to replace some front door latches," Hyundai Motor said in a statement.
The voluntary recall will affect some 46,000 YF Sonatas produced in South Korea until Dec. 6 last year and those produced at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and sold to U.S. customers until Feb. 16, which approximately amount to 1,300 units, the company said.
After notifying the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and South Korea's transportation ministry this week about the problem, the company will start recalling its popular model next month.
"Hyundai has full confidence in its early warning system which tracks customer complaints worldwide and analyzes patterns in reported problems," the company added.

SEOUL, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. on Friday said its Sonata YF model has been selected as the "Top Safety Pick for 2010" by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The selection process included front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and protection against neck injuries, as well as analysis and evaluation based on case studies going as far back as 30 years, the company added.
SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hyundai Mobis Co., the main auto- parts provider of South Korea's Hyundai Motors, said Wednesday they have agreed with LG Chem Ltd., the country's largest chemicals maker, to launch a joint venture to produce lithium-ion car batteries.
HL Green Power Co., the name of the new joint company, is a 29 billion won (25.1 million U.S. dollars) venture that will begin production in the second half of next year, Hyundai Mobis said in a press release.
