现代足球和美式橄榄球的战争形态
当足球成为世界第一运动时，惟独美国执迷不悟，对橄榄球如醉如痴。什么原因呢？
& & 球场如战场。把打球当成打仗来看，有很多基本原理相同。
足球橄榄球就比赛场地大小，参与人数，大致时间总长度都差不多。从战争形态来类比的话，足球更像低设备的传统战争，而橄榄球则是一场现代高科技战争：
&&&&足球由于比赛进行中没有暂停休息，场外教练在比赛过程中的指导作用相对较低，主要靠运动员自己的应变能力和基本技战术体能素养等来适应场面变化。像传统的低设备战争，战士派出去打仗，基本上就靠自己了，不管是阵地战，近战，夜战，游击战还是肉搏战。前方后方之间，没有太紧密地联系。生死胜负，取决于战士们的战斗素养，作战条件，适应能力，以及球场上瞬息万变，不惟人所控制的情况。
&&&&美式橄榄球则显然有所区别。首先，场内运动员和场外教练组在比赛过程中始终保持密切联系，而且是必须的联系，每次进攻或者防守的组织过程，均经过场内外密切配合和设计，才能完成。每次攻防转换，都要根据具体情况设计攻防战术。故比赛过程完全掌控在场内外人员手中。这种密切配合，是通过教练员和主要攻防核心运动员所随身携带的通讯设备（安置在运动员头盔里）完成。而且，每次攻防过程，只延续几秒钟。这几秒钟的机会，运动员需要在瞬息万变中实施好最佳战术技术。为了达到这个精密管理效果，比赛暂停时间很多，换人次数和频率也基本不受限制，所以作战部队可以随时根据场面调整部署。这跟打一场现代化高科技战争没有什么区别。球赛的魅力，除了观赏运动员的临场表现，还在于深刻理解球队和队员的技战术攻防转换，以及每一次攻防所产生的大量战斗数据，球迷对各种数据分析如醉如痴，并据此评估两队表现。
&&&&基于两者区别，就大场面效果看，足球节奏显得慢腾腾，队员的随机性太强，相当于在观赏一场脱缰的艺术表演；美式橄榄球则是总在快节奏中进行，但全程掌控，像是在打一场现代化高科技战争。
