The GREATEST
Last week I
had lunch with a high-ranking business woman for a fortune 500 company. I asked
her what tips she would give to someone early in their career. Without hesitation
she jumped right into four keys to her professional climb:
business. Never get satisfaction with your industry or your position. In most
cases, the knowledge you hold now is not good enough to stand the test of time.
Thus, you must keep working to stay on top of what’s new and what’s coming down
the pipeline. This is what really counts, especially early in a professional
career, as many entry level associates are content to be gainfully employed.
Pick careers
with care. Again, early in your career it is easy to run after the job that
offers the most money. In the case of a life-long career money cannot answer
all things. If you are going to be an entrepreneur then you’ll probably start
with a budget of zero. Yet, if you have the discipline, working for yourself
could be the best choice you’ve ever made.
If you are
going to work for a company you have to do your homework. If you find a company
that consists with your values and produces a product that you 100% believe in,
then you’ll have an easy time giving that organization your all.
personable. If everyone hates to be around you at the office, it’s time to
check your attitude. We’ve all heard at least one anecdote(轶事) about a great thinker with great skills who
drove coworkers crazy. Someway, somehow many of the brightest and best lack the
“people skills” to advance beyond an entry-level position.
In short, you
must have the interpersonal insight(洞察力) to interact
with internal and external(外部的) contacts.
If not, you may find that you are unimportant once someone with soft-skills
joins the organization. Why? People have to buy you before they ever buy the
product you’re selling.
Be willing to
move. This is where I got puzzled. She shared how she lived in seven states
still working for the same organization.
Much is made
of moving in today’s attempts to climb the corporate ladder. As more and more
companies extend to have a global reach, it is easy to understand why new
opportunities birth in various locations.
Whatever the
path, outline in your heart what destination you hope to reach and this will be
a key indicator as to which journey will be greatest for you.

No one wants to overspend on their
supermarket shopping but to save money every week. Preparations start before
you even go into the store. Here is how to make sure you are always getting
your shopping for the best price.
●Create your list.
Write a full list which includes two
parts, something necessary for a living and something for fun. With a strict
list, you won’t easily change your mind to buy more than you need.
●Check the cupboards.
One of the easiest ways to overspend is
buying what you don’t need. Before leaving, take time to check what products
you have in the house, especially in the cupboards. Buy what you badly need and
it will help you save money before you step into the supermarkets.
●Know your budget(预算)
Keep in mind how much you plan to
spend. It is possible to get your shopping for less, but you need to wisely pay
attention to the products and brands you buy to support savings.
●Compare prices
You should make a comparison between
the prices offered by different supermarkets. So if you try to buy your
shopping for less, compare the prices in different shops, which makes sure that
you are always visiting the cheapest supermarket for your shop.
●Choose the best time for shopping
If you know your supermarket well,
there will certainly be a preferred time to shop. This could be at the quietest
time to make sure you get peace while working out the total cost of your
shopping. And a few hours before closing helps you to get a special offer. That
will bring down the cost of your shopping.

disorganization (慢性失序症)occurs when one has a habit of
being disorganized over a long period, which means the person is constantly
unsystematic in how he conducts life and business. One suffering from this
problem may find relief in the fact that it isn’t actually a disease or
even an “ official” disorder. It’s the continued lack of organization in one’s
may become addicted to collecting a certain thing yet never organize the
collection as it grows out of control. This can especially be a problem for
those with a lot of time and money at hand, yet the problem can be serious for
any type of person in a wide variety of situation.
personal attitude can often be a big part of why the chronic disorganization
exists. Once the attitude of acceptance about being a “slob” is in someone’s
head, it’s hard to remove. If someone tells himself that he is a slob, he will
likely live up to that self-image created by him or by those around him.
first receives true awareness of the disorder of chronic disorganization when
it starts to negatively affect relationships with friends and family members.
Everybody becomes affected by this situation, especially those sharing living
places with the one involved.
National Study Group for Chronic Disorganization (HSGCD) recommends that one
get help through a professional organizer. The study found that all of the
subjects in the study had problems with making decisions. There were varied
reasons given for this problem of decision-making. Among them were fears and
prioritizing issues. Research is ongoing for the link between problems in
decision-making and chronic disorganization.
disorganization often begins with situational disorganization, something most
people experience at some point. Someone who has lost someone significant to
him may start to be troubled by disorganization after a divorce. Someone who
experienced changes in life and in his career is likely to let things like
organization and order fall by the wayside. However, one doesn’t instantly have
chronic disorganization.
If you’re going through hell, keep going.” That’s an old saying that’s true
about one’s struggles with chronic disorganization. Every person has the power
to change within himself. It’s a matter of staying organized, one day at a
time. Those who have left chronic disorganization in the past have often done
so by promising to stay organized simply for that single day.

ID systems
are used as a means for people to prove their identity, as a means of access
control, or for many other situations. ID cards also contain a lot more
information than simply the name of the holder. All ID cards contain
information that is relevant to the institution that released them, so there is
no single model that applies to all ID cards.
Different institutions have different rules when it comes to ID cards, and ID
cards used by students, in universities, will not have the same security
features as those used in the military, for example. The more important the
institution is, the more important the security is, and the more security
features will be used to prevent duplication(复制) of an ID card.
with a printer that can print ID cards can duplicate in ID card, if it does not
have any security measures. There have been lots of cases, especially in low
security institutions, where ID cards have been duplicated and this was not
noticed, since the person holding the card usually flashed it when it was
requested, and that was not enough to notice that it is a fake.
may not be extremely important when it is simply a case of a student trying to
enter the campus of another university, but it can be of vital importance if it
happens in a military institution. Checks in military institutions are much
stricter and the personnel checking the card are always trained to spot fakes
in a short amount of time.
Some may think that creating an ID card is extremely difficult, but it is not.
All it takes is a special printer that can print ID cards, a model and a photo
ID. The fact that such printers can be freely ordered online has raised
security issues with lots of companies and institutions, and most have decided
to either create their own ID cards, or simply use more advanced security
features that regular home-users do not have access to. This includes magnetic
stripes(磁条),
chips, barcodes(条形码),and
other methods. This does increase the cost of the card per person, so the total
cost of the cards increases based on the number of employees the company has,
but it also reduces security risks to a minimum.
So ID systems, as basic as they seem, are an excellent security measure for any
institution. To ensure that the IDs look good and function properly, the
company that handles the card printing services should be top-class. Trying to
save some money by choosing a cheaper provider is not really wise. While some
companies offer bonuses for large orders, if the quality provided is not of the
highest standard, it is not worth it.

Disability aids are vital to
those who suffer problems with executing work with two hands. These are people
who have been disabled due to some major sickness or some other problems. In
order to help them carry on their work in the normal way, disability aids are
manufactured. This helps them make their life a lot easier than what it would
have been without these aids. The kind of disability aids that an individual
might require depends on the person only. It is the problem that a person faces
that decides the aids that he/she will use for carrying out their respective
jobs. The following is the list of a few disability aids that come of significant
The first and foremost aid is the stocking aid, aiding the
individuals suffering from the problem of bending down to reach
the foot and wear their own socks. These stocking aids have a gutter(槽) that is made up of
plastic material. These gutters are shaped in a certain way along with the
attachment of cotton tapes in it. The sock is then put over the gutter. The
foot is placed inside the gutter. The cotton tapes help in pulling the socks up
the leg and subsequently the sock. In this manner, the sock is worn by a person
who has problems wearing it by bending one’s back and reaching the foot.
There are openers that help the people who have problems with their
hands or wrists to open bottles of ketchup, jam and other such bottles and jars
that necessitates the use of hands and fingers.
The third type of disability aids that comes to our minds are lifts.
Now what are lifts? Lifts are certain machines that help in lifting people from
specific areas, such as a bathtub or a set of stairs. These lifts are of varied
types and come for numerous applications. It is for the individual to decide
the type that he/she requires to use.
For people, who have problems in balancing their upper bodies in a
stable manner, there is something known as grab rails. These grab rails are
installed for those who have mobility problems in their upper bodies. These
rails come in varieties of shapes, sizes and angles. These grab rails are
available to home users as well, in their different variations. One can
purchase and fix one to their homes according to one’s specificities. These
grab rails require the act of screwing and drilling in order to fix them to
their appropriate place. The prices of these rails also vary according to the
variation of their shapes and sizes.
A portable book holder is a much sought-after disability aid. It can
be used by anybody for that matter, not just the disabled. These portable book
holders are light-weight and can be easily moved about. These holders relieve
the strains on one’s hands, necks and shoulders that might occur due to the
handling of a book. The holders are provided with extended legs that help in
placing the reading material at suitable distance.
Thus with the help of these disability aids, the old and disabled people
can make their lives much more convenient and comfortable that would otherwise
have been a cumbersome and complex one.

You want to be confident and
feel confident, but what if you're starting with little or no confidence? True
self-confidence isn't an overnight acquisition. It takes dedication to realize
you are a good human being that is worthy of respect and love.
Recognize your insecurities
What does that voice in the
back of your mind say? Why do you feel uncomfortable or ashamed of yourself?
This could be anything from regrets to friends at school or negative
experience. Whatever is making you feel unworthy, or ashamed, identify it, give
it a name, and write it down. You can also tear these written pieces to start
feeling positive on those points.
Get rid of insecurities
Each day you should weaken
it. There's no quick fix. Get to the focus on it and
understand that you need to resolve each issue before you can move on. Check if
it is an old past emotion and if it is really still relevant or applicable in
your life today. And that does not mean you have to get rid of whatever makes
you feel bad (many times, you simply can't). You need to learn to accept
yourself, your past, your circumstances as they are, without necessarily
thinking of them as “bad”.
Identify your successes
Everyone is good at
something, so discover the things at which you do extremely well, then focus on
your talents. Give yourself permission to be proud of them. Give yourself
credit for your successes. Inferiority (自卑) is a state of mind in which you've
declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.
Be Positive
Avoid self-pity, or the pity
and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior—they can
only do so if you let them. If you continue to dislike and look down upon
yourself, others are going to do and believe likewise. Instead, speak in a
positive way about yourself, about your future, and about your progress. Do not
be afraid to show your strengths and qualities to others. By doing so, you
strengthen those ideas in your mind and encourage your growth in a positive
direction.
Apply “facial feedback
Studies surrounding what’s
called the &facial feedback theory& suggest that the expressions on
your face can actually encourage your brain to express certain emotions. So look
in the mirror and smile every day, and you might feel happier with yourself and
more confident in the long run.
Help others
When you know you’re of help
to the people around you, and are making a positive difference in other
people’s lives (even if it's just being kinder to the person who serves you
coffee in the morning), you'll know that you are a positive force in the
world—which will boost yourself confidence.
Now, dear friends, will you
let confidence keep you company? Be confident, and accomplishing your goals
will be just around the corner.

To make our digestive
(消化的) system work well, we should
avoid doing some things after having a meal, for example, drinking water. It is
true that a person should drink 8 glasses of water every day to stay healthy.
However, drinking water right after eating or even during a meal may disrupt (扰乱) digestion. It might affect
the natural levels of acid and bile (酸和胆汁) that are necessary for proper digestion.
What’s more, drinking cold water after eating might slow down (减慢)digestion. So try to avoid
drinking water at least an hour after a meal, and avoid drinking it while
Though walking after eating is healthy,
doing it immediately after a meal is not. Doing so will make it difficult for
the digestive system to take in nutrients (营养) from the food. Besides, the blood will
flow towards other parts of the body, like legs, hands, etc, which will make
the digestive tract not have enough amount of blood flow that is needed for
proper digestion. So we should wait for at least 2 hours after eating, and then
begin exercising.
Sleeping should also be avoided right after
eating. This is because going to bed right after a meal will lead to improper
digestion. What’s more, such a habit will also make you put on a lot of weight.
Therefore, wait for an hour or two, and then go to sleep.
Many of us have the habit of drinking tea
just after lunch or dinner,
which is really unhealthy. The tea leaves are rich in (富含)acid which prevents the
protein in the food from digesting. The best time to drink tea is at least one

Why do we talk so much about the weather?
When we meet new people,we don’t begin by telling them our life story. We start
with small talk, a polite conversation about something like traffic or weather.
Research suggests that small talk can
build new friendships. When we begin conversations with new people, we want to
feel comfortable, and so do they. We use small talk to find common interests.
Once we have a common interest, a friendship can begin.
Small talk even helps people get hired.

I am writing this story because it is not too late for me to
talk to my parents. I realized this last night when visiting their house while
they were away. I went to freshen it up for their return, and being at their
house without them at home made me sad.
As I went into their bedroom, I saw little reminders of them—some
Christmas gifts still in boxes and family photos that must have a special
meaning to them. What took my breath away was seeing my dad’s medals for his
military (军事的)
service to our country.
The photos of my mom with friends made me realize that she
had her ownlife before she was “my mom”. My life has been so busy in raising my
own family that I missed experiencing who my parents were.
I am grateful to have both of my parents. I still have time
to talkwith them. I hope that others will benefit from my story and find the
time to really talk to those in their life that mean so much to them, such as
their parents.

London’s Chinese community
(社区) dates back to the 18th century, when a
small number of Chinese sailors moved to the city to work in Limhouse, east
London. As time went on, other Chinese people came to this area and Limhouse
began to be known as “Chinatown”. However, London’s Chinese community remained
very small for many years: at the start of the 20th century, there were just
545 Chinese people in Britain.
After the Second World
War, many farmers in Hong Kong lost their jobs and came to London. As Limhouse
had been almost destroyed during the war, they settled in a different area—a
part of central London near Leicester Square. This area is now what Londoners
call Chinatown.
At first, the new
immigrants (移民) found it difficult to get jobs. In the
1950s, however, a small Chinese restaurant opened in London. Many British
people visited it and said that Chinese food was wonderful! Suddenly, Chinese
restaurants and take-aways started opening in every part of the city. Instead
of too little work, the new Chinese immigrants now found that they had too
much! They worked as cooks, managers or waiters. Most of them enjoyed their
lives and arranged their friends and relatives to join them from overseas.
As time went by, London’s
Chinese community became more and more successful. The sons and daughters of
the original restaurant workers studied and worked very hard. And most went on
to get highly paid jobs. Many Chinese families left Chinatown and moved to the
more expensive outskirts. Chinatown, however, is still as lively as ever.

people think that making a film is exciting. In fact, sometimes it is and
sometimes it isn’t. Earlier this year, I worked in a new film. It was about a
bomb threat on a big British ship. Two hundred people were needed to act as the
passengers in the film. I was one of them.
Before we left, we were wanted to bring some warm clothes. These were necessary
because the ship was going to spend the whole 16 days sailing in bad weather.
Then the day came and we sailed out of Dover. The boat had on board the film

People came for different purposes. Some wanted to meet Brinksley Meers in
person. Others were curious to see how a film was made. A housewife with her
three children came for free holiday and a bit of adventure.
During the voyage, a lot of people were very seasick. And although the work was
very interesting, it was also very hard. We often worked all day on one scene,
performing it again and again under the hot lights. In the evenings, there were
drinks in the bar, but most people were so tired that they went to bed early.
The next day often began at 6:30 in the morning, sometimes with breakfast being filmed.
When the ship finally returned to port, most people had enjoyed the trip, but were
also so tired that they at least needed a week’s holiday. Answer the following

Taiwan police cannot decide whether to treat it as
an extremely clever act of stealing or an even cleverer cheat. Either way, it
could be the perfect crime, because the criminals are birds—horning pigeons!
crime begins with a telephone message to the owner of a stolen car: if you want
the car back, pay up! Then, the car owner is directed to a park, told where to
find a bird cage and how to attach money to the neck of the pigeon inside.
Carrying the money in a tiny bag, the pigeon flies off.
have been at least four such pigeon pick-ups in Changwa.
What at first seemed like the work of a clever stay-at-home car thief, however,
may in fact be the work of an even lazier and more inventive criminal mind— one
that avoid not only collecting money but going out to steal the car in the
first place. Police officer Chen says that the criminal
probably has pulled a double trick: he gets money for things he cannot possibly
return. Instead of stealing cars, he lets someone else do it and then waits for
the car-owner to place an ad in the newspaper asking for help.
theory is supported by the fact that, so far, none of the stolen cars have been
returned. Also, the amount of money demanded— under 3,000 Taiwanese dollars
—seems too little for a car worth many times more.
for pigeon-delivered money stopped as soon as the press reported the story. And
even if they start again, Chen holds little hope of catching the
criminal. “We have more important things to do,” he said.

Few people need to be told not to
overspend on credit or debit cards or to curb impulse shopping. You know you
shouldn’t, even if you always do. What you need are solutions. Whatever your
problems with money, you can change—but it’s going to take work. After all,
you’re trying to break lifelong patterns. Start with these strategies.
Strategy 1
A lot of people set themselves up for failure
because they have a mindset of either indulgence (放纵)
or deprivation (克制). If you try to deprive yourself of too
much, where you spend almost nothing, then you end up giving up, and you
indulge, and then you overspend. So if you have an unrealistic plan, you’re
probably going to lose control. Good habits bad habits
happen on their own.
Strategy 2
Changing your mindset is effective in
solving the problem. Take Smith-Acuna for example. She says she had a couple in
therapy who constantly quarreled about what she feels has become a monetary
cliché. They would always argue about how much money they were spending at
Starbucks. The wife loved capping off each workday with a drink. Ultimately,
the wife ended up quitting her Starbucks habit. Instead of replacing her drink
with nothing, she got something else, something free, in return.
Strategy 3
It’s a good start if you switch from
paying for merchandise and services with a debit or credit card to paying with
cash. It’s easy when you’re using plastic to mindlessly swipe and fall into a
pattern of not thinking or noticing how much you’re actually spending. You can
divide up your money and put it into envelopes, marking down on the envelopes
what each pile of money is for. That can make it easier to see where your money
Strategy 4
Get a receipt for every purchase.
Breaking up your expenses into categories like food, clothing, housing, medical
care and so on, but also labeling each expense as a need or a want. Be
realistic as to what is really necessary. A need is something where you would
die or go to jail if you didn’t spend the money or ruin your credit. At the end
of the month, total up all the categories. Do this, and you’ll be more educated
about how much money you actually have, and how much you have left over for fun
Strategy 5
There is probably a reason you developed
bad habits, which are often adopted on the road easier traveled. So if you’re
suddenly balancing your bank account every day, or you’re regularly putting money
into an emergency fund, plan to give yourself some sort of prize for the past
two weeks. You’ve been saving money or spending it more wisely, so you can
probably afford it.
Introduction
often than not, (71)

True friends are rare to make these days.
Even if you believe you’ve connected with someone, how do you really know he is
a true friend? And often you will find that someone who you thought you could
trust may disappoint you. There are ways you can know if a friendship is true
and how you can hold onto that friend.
A true friend is someone who will be there
for you no matter what happens. Through good times and bad times, they will
stand by you. They will accept you for who you are without trying to change you,
and they will be there to help you grow in new ways.
Trust is another important aspect. A true
friend will keep your secrets. You can depend on them. They will listen and be
someone you know you can talk things over with, even if they may not have
advice to share with you.
Friendship is a two-way street. To find
true friends and keep them, you must in turn be the same as well. Be there for
them in their hard times and share the good times with them. Be someone your
friends can depend on and offer them the same things they give to you. A
friendship will fall apart fast if only one person is giving and putting all
the effort in. To keep a true friendship, you must be honest.
There will be barriers in the road but
that is the test of true friendship. If it can survive those barriers, it will
be stronger and last forever. St Thomas Aquinas said, “There is nothing on this earth more prized
than friendship” and it holds true.
