Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
In anticipation of Harvest Moon's imminent release, we have new screens, video, and information.

marks the first appearance of the famed Harvest Moon series on the PlayStation. Many longtime followers of Nintendo have held the Harvest Moon games, which have appeared on the NES, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Nintendo 64, very close to their hearts. While the game has never featured groundbreaking graphics and it's always been more than a little cutesy (in a very Japanese sort of way), the addictive gameplay and overall charm have always seemed to be enough to win people over.
With the release of
on the PlayStation,
is hoping that its enchanting little game will be able to win over the older and more mature user base of Sony's 32-bit system. One of the factors that might help it do this is the fact that it features graphics that are actually superior to its Nintendo 64 cousin.
While Harvest Moon 64 featured backgrounds that were generally lacking in texture details, Nastume has furnished the PlayStation version with all-new textures that help give the game a much better overall look.
The increase in texture quality and details can be seen in places such as the floors of some of the houses, where the planks now have a the distinctive appearance of wood. The Town Square and just about every other area in the game have been greatly enhanced by the improved textures.
Furthermore, the PlayStation version is also equipped with some extra lighting and other special graphical effects. All together, it equates to a PlayStation game that is far superior to its counterpart on the more powerful Nintendo 64.
BACKGROUND STORY
When you were young, your scheduled vacation trip had to be canceled due to your father's business.
So instead you visited a small town where your Grandfather owned a ranch.
Your Grandfather was a very busy man, however he welcomed you with open arms.
The town was small, but there was something new and exciting to do everyday.
One day while hiking in the mountains behind your Grandfather's ranch you met a girl.
You remember singing songs together high on top of the mountain's summit.
She had a beautiful voice.
When it was time to return to home, you promised her you would be back one day.
10 years have passed...
Once again you visit your Grandfather's ranch and find that it has become a wasteland after your Grandfather's passing.
The town Mayor says that he would give you three years to turn this decrepit farm into the once striving farm it used to be.
With little money and only a handful of tools, you and your dog decide to restore the ranch to something your Grandfather would be proud of.
One more thought fills your mind, you wonder how the girl you met is doing.
You look forward to the day when you can tell her, "I kept my promise".
GAME DETAILS The PlayStation version will offer all new and original dialogue with new gameplay features that aren't found in any previous version. For those not familiar to the series, you be pleased to know that it offers completely non-linear gameplay and allows you to interact with over 50 unique characters that will helps make the game highly replayable.
Additionally, there are tons of different mini games that range from Chicken Sumo to a Town Tomato fight, even adding more to the game's overall play value. There are also over 100 different recipes that you can collect and use to create your own masterful dishes to help woo the women in town. That's right, even though the game features a very young cast, it does delve deeply into character interactions and marriage.
Ot the ability to train your dog to protect your livestock from wild animals, five levels of power-ups for your tools, the chance to catch and raise a variety of fish, realtime character movement, tons of new seasonal vegetables and fruits, and new items and fights including a Cheese Maker and Wool Maker. You can also get to know the Harvest Sprites, who may give you a hand around the farm if you're friendly enough.
Harvest Moon isn't exactly a blockbuster, but it has some of the most devoted fans around, and for good reason.
It seems like a silly concept, but it gas the addictive quality of any good simulation, and its visual style gives it a unique charm.
If you missed out on the SNES or N64 versions, this is definitely one of the PlayStation games you should check out this fall -
will be appearing on the PlayStation for the first time this November.
