第二部分:阅读理解 &
Some people think that success is only for those with
talents or those who grow up in the right family, and others
believe that success is mostly based on luck. I’m not
going to say luck, talents, and circumstances don’t play an
important role because they do. Some people are born into the
right family while others are born with great intelligence and
talents, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a
goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in
addition to that, in order to achieve one’s goal and be
really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours
studying and practising. To become great at certain things,
it’ll require even more determination and more time, time
that most people won’t put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise
you to do something you love and believe in what you are
doing. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it is going to
feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before
you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or
having achieved great success, you know that they have put
in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s
sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some
rare talents and blame your failure on something
else, but thinking that way does you no good, and
there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do, if you want to master good skills, you
need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction,
and stick to it over a long period of time. If you’re not
determined to put in the time and work, don’t expect to
receive any rewards. Determination and diligence won’t
guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will
guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you
put all that work into, and your continuous efforts will pay off
in the long run.

Liu Wei, from Beijing, won the “China’s Got Talent” final
at the Shanghai Stadium last night. At the award ceremony, Liu was
invited by Taiwan singer Jolin Tsai as a guest performer during her
world tour(世界巡回演唱会).
He became armless at 10 and although originally he was under
great stress and quite upset about his condition, he soon
realized he had a choice to make. “One choice was to give up
and abandon all dreams, which would lead to quick, hopeless
failure and death. The other was to make efforts to
improve the situation and struggle without arms to live an
outstanding life,” says Liu, now 23.
Of course, contestants overcoming difficulties is a
frequent subtext(潜台词) of talent shows, but Wei’s
accomplishment is extraordinary.
Even watching it on YouTube, you cannot believe that Liu is able
to play so successfully, expertly and movingly using only
his toes(脚趾). The shocked audience, many in tears, rose at the
conclusion of his performance. The judges bowed in respect
to his determination and achievement.

Some people seem to possess a skill for learning
languages. They can pick up new vocabulary, master rules of
grammar, and learn to write in the new language more
successfully than others. They do not seem to be more
clever than others, so what makes language learning so much
easier and more efficient for them? Perhaps if we take a
close look at these successful language learners, we may
discover a few of the techniques which make them efficient and
successful language learners.
1. ________
Your sense of success will depend on your need for
English and whether or not you meet your need. It is not just a
question of measured progress. If you need conversational fluency,
note-taking skill will not meet your need. If you must learn
to write effective business letter, informal conversation
will not help you achieve your goal.
2. ________
Successful language learners do not depend on the book or
they discover their own way to learn the language.
Rather than wait for the teacher to explain, they make
efforts to find the patterns and rules by themselves. They are
good guessers who look for clues(线索) and form their own
conclusions. When they guess wrong, they guess again. They are
determined to keep trying and learn from their
3. ________
Successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the
they look for such a chance. They find people who speak
the language and they ask these people to correct them when they
make a mistake. They will make efforts to communicate with
others. They will achieve success eventually.
4. ________
They are not afraid to repeat what they hear or to say strange
Successful language learners don’t give up
easily and are willing to try again and again. When
faced with difficulties in communication, they can accept
information that is inexact or incomplete. It is more important for
them to learn to think in the language than to know the meaning of
every word.
5. ________
They are determined to learn the language because they
are interested in the language and the people who speak it.
It is necessary for them to learn the language in order to
communicate with these people and to learn from them. They
find it easy to work hard and practice using the language
regularly because they want to learn in it. And their efforts
will pay off.

The day before the speech contest (比赛) English teacher
encouraged me to believe in yourself. She said that she and
my schoolmate all wished me success, and it didn’t matter
that I would win or not, as long as I worked hard at
it. When I was in the stage the next day, I was under great
stress and felt so nervous as I shook like a leaf. I was
faced with so many people present! Suddenly, I caught a sight
of my English teacher in the crowd. She was smiling but nodding at
me. I remembered her encouraging words and calm down.
I made efforts to give a good performance and won the
first prize eventually. Now my picture and the prize is hanging
in the library. Whenever I see them I will feel grateful to
my English teacher.

第六部分:书面表达
请以下列词语为关键词写一篇英语短文。
match winner loser result
1.自己或他人的一次经历;& 2.你的感受。
1.必须使用所给4个关键词;
2.词数不少于120个;
3.不能使用真实姓名和学校名称。
Last week, a football match was held between we Class One and
Class Two.
The players from both sides are all excellent football players,
so the match went on fiercely at first. At last the result is: the
winner is Class Two, and we were the loser.
We didn’t win the match, but we didn’t lose heart.
On the one hand, we think that friendship comes first, and a
match comes second. On the other hand, since we all made our
greatest efforts, we had no regret. In our life we may be
faced with many failures, as long as we work really
hard, there’s no need to feel regretful for these
failures. What’s more, we can learn something from our
failure by analyzing the reasons, and keep trying again and
again, so that we will achieve success in the long
In a word, success really matters, and so does failure, as
it’s the mother of success.
成功是源于坚持不懈的努力。然而有时候努力了,你也有可能达不到预期的目标。请用英语写一篇120个词左右的短文,通过记叙你生活中的亲身经历或描述他人的故事,来谈谈你对成功的理解。
There is no doubt that everyone hopes to be successful.
However, this doesn’t always happen as expected. For example, I
can still remember the sports meet in middle school, in which I
took part in the 800-meter race. At first I thought I could not
finish such a long distance for I had no talent for sports.
But I’m determined to practice running every day. Months of
hard work rewarded me with the third place. Although I was
not the first one, I finished the race. To me this was a
Personally, I think failure as well as success plays
an important role in our life. No matter how hard we work at
something, sometimes we may still fail, but we can
learn something from failure. In fact, failure doesn’t mean
we lose everything. Only when we face failure properly can
we become aware of the real meaning of success.

The challenge we face is the identification of the most convenient ways to organise the coexistence of different human language groups in order that we might promote their solidarity as members of the same culturally developed biological species.
Processes of economic and political integration currently in motion are seeing increasing numbers of people seeking to become polyglots. Thus, English is establishing itself as the usual world supra-language, although it coexists with other lingua francas that are widely used in certain parts of the globe.
All this communicative reorganization of the human species may very well pose new problems and aggravate existing tensions as regards language and identity. It would seem that these processes comprise at least four major conceptual dimensions which must be taken into account above all else, as they are both widespread and, left unaddressed, may lead to significant social instability. These dimensions concern linguistic recognition, communicability, sustainability and integration.
While accepting the utility of having an inter-national language, the keystone of the system is clearly that it must ensure the linguistic sustainability of each group. The basic principle is likely to be functional subsidiarity, i.e., whatever can be done by the local language should not be done by another one which is more global. As in the quote from Paracelsus& --“the dose alone makes the poison”-- contact between languages is not ‘poisonous’ per se, but when the correct dose is exceeded it can prove harmful to the language whose position is weaker. A multilingual and communicated humanity is possible.
