2.　Among the more colorful characters of Leadville's golden age were H.A.W.Tabor and his second wife, Elizabeth McCourt, better known as &Baby Doe&. Their history is fast becoming one of the legends of the Old West. Horace Austin Warner Tabor was a school teacher in Vermont. With his first wife and two children he left Vermont by covered wagon in 1855 to homestead in Kansas. Perhaps he did not find farming to his liking, or perhaps he was lured by rumors of fortunes to be made in Colorado mines. Tabor knew little about mining himself, so he opened a general store, which sold everything from boots to salt, flour, and tobacco.It was his custom to &grubstake& prospective miners, in other words, to supply them with food and supplies, or &grub&, while they looked for ore, in return for which he would get a share in the mine if one was discovered.He did this for a number of years, but no one that he aided ever found anything of value.
　　Finally one day in the year 1878, so the story goes, two miners came in and asked for &grub&. Tabor had decided to quit supplying it because he had lost too much money that way. These were persistent, however, and Tabor was too busy to argue with them. &Oh help yourself. One more time won't make any difference,& He said and went on selling shoes and hats to other customers. the two miners took $17 worth of supplies, in return for which they gave Tabor a one-third interest in their findings. They picked a barren place on the mountainside and began to dig. After nine days they struck a rich vein of silver. Tabor bought the shares of the other two men, and so the mine belonged to him alone. This mine, known as the &Pittsburgh Mine,& made $1 300 000 for Tabor in return for his $17 investment.
　　Later Tabor bought the Matchless Mine on another barren hillside just outside the town for $117 000.This turned out to be even more fabulous than the Pittsburgh, yielding $35 000 worth of silver per day at one time. Leadville grew. Tabor became its first mayor, and later became lieutenant governor of the state.

　　最后10天不用再做新题。这10天的复习计划是把曾经的错题再次拿出来梳理。检查自己的漏洞。提前考试一两天，最好腾出某一天上午九点到十一点十分（四级）下午三点到五点十分（六级）这整段时间来进行一次模拟考试。切记流程要和考试当天保持一致，这样考试当天才能对考场上的一切熟悉贯通，得心应手。下面我针对不同科目给出一些具体复习策略：
　　写作：近几次考试在考察作文的类型上多了图画，名言警句类作文，因此考生在真正进入考场前，至少应该对图画作文，名言警句类作文套路十分熟悉......
　　网上有一个调查，说四六级考试你最头疼的题型是什么，68%四级同学，70%六级同学都选择了听力。为什么？听力自06年起分值由20%提升至35%，而我们传统教育中对听口的练习并不重视，导致听力的份偏低。我在六级班上遇到很多屡考不过的，很多是研究生，很多人甚至考研英语高达780分，但六级过不去，主要原因，听力。听力考的不仅仅是一个人的词汇量，语法知识，还涉及到语音，口音、语速甚至是语调语气的考察。所以只看得懂是不够的，要用耳朵快速准确识别信息，并作出判断。最后我们还有几件事做。题型特点.....
　　很多同学都和我反映过感觉自己的四级考试仔细阅读部分看懂的越多最对的题目数量反而越少。这是典型的没有从根本上了解四六级的做题思路的表现。四六级阅读一般篇章在300-350词左右。对应文章设置5道选择题目。很多同学拿到文章通篇读一遍然后凭借记忆还是做题，正确率很低。其实要想做对题目首先要了解四六级阅读的出题思路。文章对应的五道题目实际上是出题人针对文章中特定的五句话而设置的。也就是说要想做对一篇文章的五道题，只需要找准文章中那五句出题的句子，然后将这五句话和四个选项进行对比，找到符合原文的表达即可.....
　　翻译是变化比较大的一个题型，单句翻译调整为段落翻译。考生也不要过于慌张。从上次考试的几套题来看，难度并不是特别大。我们主要的问题集中在用词不当，句子语法错误上。因为几套题走的都是中国风路线，大纲要求是翻译内容涉及中国历史文化经济社会发展等内容。其中中国文化是上套题考察重点，茶文化，烹饪，中国结，中秋节，中国园林，以及样题所给的春节和中国剪纸。历史方向考了丝绸之路，四大发明。社会发展考到了信息技术的发展和应用。很多同学对于其中的词汇有点焦头烂额，以至于出现很多神翻译......
